Coca cola advert

Coca cola advert anylasis

In the beginning the advert the music is very sharp and dramatic, almost like a soldier anthem, and the scene is shot in long shot. The music creates tension in the scene as does the actors posture and facial expressions, and body language. We can clearly see these characters despise each other.  The colours in the scene are very dull, to make the coca cola stand out and the characters are very dirty, to show how long they've been there. We instantly begin to favour the soldier in red as he is the first to face the camera, and he wears red which is a warm colour, as the other wears blue which is a cold colour.

Also, we begin to see how mean the blue soldier is, and how serious he is about his job when a piece of paper crosses the line to blue territory. The blue soldier looks disgusted by it and ferociously stabs the paper with his sword, to show how he hates anything from the red side. This shows how even the smallest of things are forbidden.

The characters don't use vocal speech in this advert but choose to use facial expressions so they can communicate with the audience which is more effective in this piece. Suddenly the music stops as the soldier in red opens the coca cola bottle, and the only sound we can hear is the bottle opening. The red soldier begins to drink with the label facing the camera to show what he's advertising. The music suddenly changes again to a more sad and solemn piece of music, showing the blue soldiers sad facial expression, which changes the mood of the scene.

When the red soldier tries to give the blue the other coca cola they both look around to make sure no ones looking, which shows how strict they are about crossing the line. When the red takes out his sword to draw an extension of the line, the blue flinches and reaches for his sword, this suggests that he does not trust him even when he gives him the coke. They both close their eyes when they are drinking to show how much they enjoy the drink and what a relief it is to have it in the dessert when it's so hot. When they both catch each other smiling they quickly return to the beginning, as does the music, and the blue soldier re draws the line.

The coca cola's slogan is 'open hapiness' which is what the soldiers do. The message behind this advert is even deadly enemies become friends when they open a bottle of coca cola. It makes us feel secure with the product, and we believe in it that way, that it truly can 'open happiness'.

Mise en Scene

Mise en scene is a French term, used to give an impression of a certain situation in the scene. It doesn't usually represent a realistic scene, but still incorporates parts of everyday life. It uses lighting, props, camera angles, and most importantly, different characters, to create this situation in a scene. It gives off certain feelings about the situation to the audience (e.g. awkward, joy, scared). This is usually used in films to create empathy with the characters.
